In September of 2001 I set out on a 31-week trip through Africa from Cape Town to London on a Dragoman overland truck, but after reaching Harare I decided to let the group go on without me and try traveling on my own for a while. I ended up in Kenya and stayed in the Nairobi area for a little over two months before moving on to India, specifically the town of Bodhgaya, where I stayed for two weeks and a few days before returning home.

     Along the way I kept interested parties semi-informed via email reports, a compilation of which I've made available on this site. They were written and posted as I had the time and inclination to write and post them; if you read them, please keep in mind that, due to the fact that I was writing about things as they happened, often without complete information, and sometimes under the influence of actively disseminated disinformation or just plain confusion on my part, some of them do contain minor errors. But, other than some spelling corrections, I've chosen to leave the reports as they were originally sent out and provide further and (hopefully) more accurate information in other places. Also, several people have commented on the fact that my reports came to an abrupt end when I left Kenya for India, and that's true. But even though I was only in India for a few weeks, I did and saw a lot that was worth writing about. I just wasn't in the mood to do it at the time. Although I did try to fill in a few blanks after my return.

     As for photos, I took a lot, and have posted a selection that I feel are either representative of some of what I experienced, informative, or just plain nice to look at. They may be viewed, along with some accompanying comments, by clicking the maps below - but to really put it all together you'll need to read the compilation of reports from the field that I kept as I traveled, along with my postscript, and do a little cross-referencing.
