This lion could have killed his springbok anywhere, but for our benefit he did it within 30 feet of the road to which we were bound in the game parks. That, and a 300 mm zoom lens, gave me a unique chance to catch the gore in all its glory.

     He's almost certainly a bachelor male, on his own for the rest of his life, either because he failed to dominate his way to alpha status in a pride or was deposed by a challenger. Because if he belonged to a pride, he wouldn't be hunting; that's a lioness' job.

     Also - he ate the whole damn thing, starting from the rear. Bones, green innards, head and all. Yuck. And it crunched a lot.
